چکیده

Abstract The effect of exposure to high temperature on rock strength is a topic interest in many engineering fields. In general, known decrease as increases. most common test used evaluate the uniaxial compressive (UCS). It can only be carried out laboratory and presents some limitations terms number, type preparation samples. Such constrains are more evident case rocks from historical monuments affected by fire, where availability samples limited. There alternatives for an indirect determination UCS, such point load (PLT), or non-destructive tests Schmidt’s hammer, that also performed situ. aims this research are: (i) measuring temperatures cooling methods hardness limestone named Pedra de Borriol widely several historic buildings E Spain, (ii) studying possibility indirectly obtaining UCS means PLT Leeb (LHT), using Equotip D. Limestone were heated 105 (standard conditions), 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800 900 ºC cooled slowly (in air) quickly (immersed water). After that, LHT changes Results show decreases over 90% between 50 70% index smaller than 60% index. Insignificant differences observed, although provide slightly higher values ones. results indicate estimate providing acceptable prediction. Research correlating parameters after thermally treated still scarce. This novelty provides correlations predict if whose quicker easier.

Predicting the Young\'s Modulus and Uniaxial Compressive Strength of a typical limestone using the Principal Component Regression and Particle Swarm Optimization

In geotechnical engineering, rock mechanics and engineering geology, depending on the project design, uniaxial strength and static Youngchr('39')s modulus of rocks are of vital importance. The direct determination of the aforementioned parameters in the laboratory, however, requires intact and high-quality cores and preparation of their specimens have some limitations. Moreover, performing thes...

Using the Point Load Test to Determine the Uniaxial Compressive Strength of Coal Measure Rock

Point load testing is used to determine rock strength indexes in geotechnical practice. The point load test apparatus and procedure enables economical testing of core or lump rock samples in either a field or laboratory setting. In order to estimate uniaxial compressive strength, index-to-strength conversion factors are used. These factors have been proposed by various researchers and are depen...

The new empirical formula to estimate the uniaxial compressive strength of limestone; south west of Tehran-Iran, as a case study

In many rock engineering projects, accurate identification of rock strength properties is very important. Uniaxial compressive strength is one of the most important features to describe the resistive behavior of rocks which is used as an important parameter in the design of structures especially underground openings. Determination of this parameter using direct methods, including uniaxial compr...

Correlation between Uniaxial Compressive Strength and Point Load Index for Salt-Range Rocks

Nine rock types including Sandstone, Limestone, Siltstone, Dolomite and Marl collected from six different rock formations of the Salt Range area of Pakistan were tested to evaluate the correlations between the uniaxial compressive strength and the corresponding values of the point load index. Two hundred rock cores were drilled and used for the uniaxial compressive strength and point load index...

A predictive model for uniaxial compressive strength of carbonate rocks from Schmidt hardness

Uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) is considered to be one of the important parameters in rock engineering projects. In order to determine UCS, direct and indirect techniques are employed. In the direct approach, UCS is determined from the laboratory UCS test. In indirect techniques determine UCS based on the nondestructive test findings which can be easily and quickly performed and require re...
